- Knowledge of Federal/State/County/ Municipal or Campus Law Enforcement Agency public safety communication center policies, practices, technology and methodology.
- Knowledge of map, chart, diagram, blueprint reading.
- Involves organizing, and operating multiple pieces of advanced technology and software applications with a high-level of efficiency, accuracy, pressure and extreme stress to effectively make sound decisions while handling multiple and differing tasks simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to react responsively in emergency situations.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- No criminal record other than minor motor vehicle violations.
- No credibility issues that would impact testimony in court, civil or administrative hearings
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must successfully complete a written examination, interview(s), background investigation, psychological/polygraph examinations and medical exam.
- Hearing, sight, speech, and sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this job.
- Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment, as necessary.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Associates Degree from an accredited college/university.
- Completion of the New Hampshire State Police SPOTS operator certification, APCO certified Telecommunicators.
- Two years of full-time emergency dispatching with a Federal/State/County/ Municipal or Campus Law Enforcement Agency.
- Working knowledge of the CSI Infoshare public safety software package
- Demonstrated knowledge of Federal/State/County/ Municipal or Campus Law Enforcement Agency rules and regulations, practices and standards.

- As a multi-jurisdictional 24-hour year-round emergency and non-emergency and state-designated 911 center, answers and screens incoming telephone calls from victims, witnesses, suspects, staff, students, parents, members of the public, local law enforcement agencies, and other government and non-government entities.
- Evaluates phone calls in a timely manner, accurately questioning callers to elicit information necessary to establish the location, nature, degree of severity, priority, and any responder safety risks.
- Respond to phone, text, email, and walk-in requests from the public and serves as a resource to the public for community services and referrals. Coordinates activities with community service and public health agencies.
- Answers call from emergency blue light phones located across Durham, Manchester, and Concord campuses
- Operate multi-channel two-way radio console to both monitor and facilitate communications between law enforcement, campus service officers, fire, medical, emergency management, parking and transportation services, contract event staff, USNH institutions, and public utilities.
- Monitors simultaneous transmissions from multiple frequencies while accurately keeping a record of times and pertinent transmissions.
Duty/Responsibility
- Acts as the sole answering point for the University and its entities after normal business hours to include parking questions, general inquiries, lock outs and all other concerns. Calls are routed to UNH dispatch center to be fielded and addressed whenever possible.
- Emergency dispatchers are essential personnel and must report to work during severe weather, widespread emergencies, and pandemics.
- The UNH Emergency Dispatch Center operates 24/7 365 days a year and emergency dispatchers are required to work assigned schedules including, but not limited to days, evenings, overnights nights, holidays, weekends, special events and overtime as required.
- Emergency dispatchers must conduct themselves in a professional and appropriate manner in accordance with UNH/USNH and police department policy and mission.
- Serves as the main point of contact after hours and on weekends for all university related inquiries. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police or his/her designee.
Duty/Responsibility
- Proficiently and accurately locks down and clears locked-down campuses in the event of an emergency, active shooter/assailant, or other high-priority critical incidents.
- Participates and assists in investigations by utilizing surveillance cameras, open-source social media databases, and other resources to identify suspects, victims, and witnesses.
- Summarizes information for broadcasting using clear, concise, and appropriate language in an organized, complete, and accurate manner.
- Prepare and send emergency notifications to the campus communities regarding Clery’s reportable crimes, in-progress threats, and severe impending weather, traffic advisories, or any other hazardous situation.
- Monitors panic/burglar alarms, fire alarms, service alarms, and temperature alarms for all UNH-owned or leased property throughout the State of New Hampshire, local residents living in municipalities, and other USNH institutions as requested.
- Monitors surveillance cameras for all UNH-owned or leased property throughout the State of New Hampshire and USNH institutions as requested.
Duty/Responsibility
- Confidentially handles sensitive and legally protected information.
- Validates criminal history, warrant, and article entries of colleagues in accordance with Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) security policy
- Queries National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), and other local, state, and national computer databases to determine the status of vehicles, persons, and property, and determine the existence of wants and warrants; accesses computer systems to provide information to and request information from other agencies.
- Accurately track, monitor, and the document sworn and civilian personnel movement, activities, and status in CAD.
- Quickly and accurately documents receipt of all calls for service in the public safety computer-aided dispatch system. Interprets all requests for service(s) needed, and determines appropriate responses using a high level of discretion and judgment while considering policies and procedures.
- Performs informational searches in the public safety computer-aided dispatch system and other public safety-sensitive, PII sensitive, and pubic databases upon request.
- Record, maintain and process computerized data for law enforcement, public safety, and emergency service agencies, and other units, including, but not limited to, street files, name indexes, call-back rosters, water supply systems, building locations, high-hazard areas, area maps, calls for service, type, location, and status of emergency response vehicles, fire and burglar alarms, mutual aid assistance, automatic fire, police and ambulance response calls, and notification rosters.
